Born and raised in the hills of central Virginia, Jonathan Mehring was brought up as a genuine woodsman who could survive in the wild with little more than a shoe string and a pocket knife. The last thing anyone thought was that he would become a photographer.

He discovered his passion for the medium at an early age, photographing his friends skateboarding and playing music. Deciding to pursue his interests, Mehring enrolled in the photography department at Virginia Commonwealth University. There his work began to diversify in subject matter while at the same time developing a consistently dark yet often humorous style.

He was the first of his class to be published, completing stories for national magazines even before graduating. Since then his work has taken him to over 20 different countries around the world. He has been published in national and international magazines including Spin, Thrasher, Mass Appeal, Sidewalk, and Skateboarder. He has exhibited his photographs at galleries in New York and Virginia. Commercial clients include Nike, Quiksilver, Vans, and Redbull. Additionally, he conducted a seminar on photography at the Pittsburg Filmmakers Academy during summer 2006, and has been invited to VCU on numerous occasions to lecture students about professional photography.

He currently works and resides in New York City.
